The PTE test, or Pearson test of English, is one of the exams you’ll be able to take before beginning your university application process. It is computerised exam in various flexible test centres. The objective of the exam is to test your skills in speaking, writing, reading and listening. You can get your test results in 5 business days. Test dates are available at flexible times. Over 200 test centres are offered.

Exam Pattern&Syllabus​

SPEAKING AND WRITING: 77 to 93 minutes

Personal Introduction: You will have 25 seconds to read a prompt and prepare an answer. Next 30 seconds are for recording your answer. Score is not given for this. 

Read aloud – You have to read the sentence on the screen loudly and record your answer.

Repeat a sentence – You will hear a sentence, and you have to repeat the sentence aloud.

Describe an image – A graphical representation appears on the screen. Describe it in detail.

Retell a lecture – After listening the lecture. Re-tell the lecture in your own words.

Answer a short question – After listening the question. Answer it in one word or few words.

Summarize written text – Read the passage and write down a summary of the passage in a sentence. 

Essay (20 minutes) – Write a 200–300-word essay on a given paragraph reference.

READING: 32 to 41 minutes

Fill in the blanks – A paragraph appears on screen. Drag words to fill in the blanks. 

Multiple answer MCQs – After reading the text, answer the question in one or two possible words.

Re-order paragraphs – Read the given paragraph re-order the structure of the sentences.

Reading and Writing: Fill in the blanks- Text appears on the screen with gaps in between. Read it and fill in each gap from list of options you will be given.

LISTENING: 45 to 57 minutes

Summarise the spoken text- Listen to a recorded segment. Write the answer summarizing it in 50-70 word.

Multiple answer MCQs – After Listening to the recording, Choose more than two responses for the question.

Fill in the blanks – Listen to the recording, Type a missing word in the gap. 

Highlight correct summary – Listen to the recording. Choose the paragraph that is closely related.

Single answer MCQs – Listen to the recording. Choose one response out of the options given.

Select missing word – Listen to the entire recording. Identify the missing word and choose one answer from the given options.

Highlight incorrect words – Listen to the recording. and Identify the wrong words and replace them with correct words.

Write from dictation – Listen to the recording. Type the sentence you heard.

SCORING SYSTEM:

You will receive a score between 10 and 90 for Speaking, Writing, Listening, and Reading and other skills such as Grammar and how fluent you are. The overall score will be average of the score given. The results will also display a graphical representation so that you can assess your skills in the sections. PTE scores are accepted across several countries which include USA, UK, Australia, Germany, Canada, Switzerland, and several other destinations.

PTE score is valid for 2 years from the date you have taken the exam. You can take the test as many times as you can. But you need to wait for the results of the previous test.
